It did not seem that what others said was working. I had to be in the right place. But I also think that I needed the pressing from others over the years to keep me aware. I had several people who kept at me. It made me mad but also made me think. So I am glad others pushed and encouraged me.Karyn L. I have a cottage in NW CT that I have offered to clergy who say they can't afford to get away (free - though a donation or some yard work is always welcome!), and they almost always find another excuse...Raewynne J. Consider different congregations who have very different needs, based on where "they," are, not where I am. Different churches, different times of the year. I also consider the happenings of the week. With all of the global technology and increase of news and knowledge. What are members worries, thoughts and prayers? My experience is that be...Yes, I completely agree. My experience is that being selective, preaching just one sermon, allows me to go deeper. I was once taught that sometimes you have to leave your favorite children on the cutting floor because they don't belong in a particular sermon and I find that to be true. That doesn't mean I can't or don't use them for something else later. And going deeper doesn't mean I bleed all over the sermon or in the preaching of it, although there may have been some blood-letting in the preparation. I think of it as doing my work so the Holy Spirit can do hers with a little more ease. <br />Thanks for the post.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452464998517982086.post-88129176365462699672013-08-01T15:59:52.436-04:002013-08-01T15:59:52.436-04:00Kersplash!

All that said, it is a matter of comfort and this is from one who thought she would never preach without a manuscript. As I became more comfortable with my own voice, I learned to leave the pulpit.
